Chudleigh's Market

Postby devonshiredeli » June 22nd, 2009, 5:59 pm

Chudleigh is a wool town and has been around for hundreds of years. A week or so ago we celebrated 750 years of having a charter to hold a weekly market. But Chudleigh hasn't had a market since the big fire around 200 years ago (don't quote me on the accuracy of these dates, I'll look it them up later).

One of my ideas for BLoC is that each town that has a market also has a shop dedicated to selling nothing but local produce from the market traders. So that people can buy what they need when the market is not in town. I would like to see Chudleigh return its market and use one of the empty shops as the first linked-in Buy Local Produce Store.

I have just looked at the latest information on the Chudleigh Parish Plan and it says our car park is under the control of Teignbridge District Council. We will need control back from the TDC in order to run a market there. Please vote in the pole above as a way of registering your support.

Chudleigh needs its market back.

Chudleigh is indeed going to re-start its market.

You can find out about its progress on this page:
